One of the twelve Day Officers (建除十二神), meaning 'open and unobstructed.' Traditionally, it was considered auspicious for opening a business, starting school, or praying for blessings, but inauspicious for burial or groundbreaking.

In traditional date selection, it is considered suitable for initiating new ventures, such as opening a store, beginning school, or holding prayer ceremonies, signifying that new starts will proceed smoothly. Older beliefs held that Kai Day was unsuitable for burial or groundbreaking work, as these activities involve closure or breaking ground, which contradict the 'open' spirit. Such ideas stemmed from the desire for important matters to occur on smooth-flowing days. While scientific views are widespread today, some folk activities still select similar days for auspiciousness.
