Traditional-Simplified Character Error Comparison

Simplified Chinese merges several traditional characters into one. When converting back to traditional, the choice depends on meaning, not form — automatic conversion tools often get this wrong.

Why Machine Conversion Is Unreliable

The earthly branch 丑 and 醜 "ugly" are written as the same character in simplified Chinese, but the branch always keeps its own, unchanging sense. Automatic conversion turns the sequence 子丑寅卯 into 子醜寅卯 — no error is raised, it reads perfectly well, and every almanac built that way is quietly wrong. The heavenly stem 干 becoming 幹 fails in exactly the same way.

A total of 56 simplified characters and 118 correspondence entries are recorded.
