Horn Mansion (Jiǎo Xiù)
The first lodge of the Twenty-Eight Lodges, belonging to the Eastern Azure Dragon. The Seven Governors match Wood, and the beast is the jiao (flood dragon). It is often classified as an auspicious lodge in almanacs.
The Horn Lodge (Jiao Su) is the first of the Twenty-Eight Lodges, marking the beginning of the seven lodges of the Eastern Azure Dragon (Canglong). In traditional star lodge belief, its element is Wood, and its corresponding beast is the jiao (flood dragon). Almanacs (tong shu) frequently classify it as an auspicious lodge, suggesting that when the Horn Lodge governs the day, it is suitable for most activities. As the head of the Azure Dragon, it symbolizes the budding and initiation of all things. Therefore, traditional date selection consults the auspicious or inauspicious nature of the Horn Lodge to arrange important events, such as rituals or construction starts. While star lodge date selection is no longer commonly practiced today, records of the Horn Lodge's fortune persist in some folk rituals or old almanacs.
