Dǒu is one of the twenty-eight lunar mansions and is part of the Northern Black Tortoise's seven mansions. Traditional calendrical systems associate it with the Wood element, and its corresponding animal is the Xiè. Almanacs typically categorize Dǒu as an auspicious mansion, meaning that in traditional date-selection practices, days when Dǒu is in effect were generally considered suitable for important events such as weddings, business openings, and ground-breaking ceremonies, believed to bring smooth progress and good fortune.
