shān xià huǒ (Fire Below the Mountain)

Shān xià huǒ is a Fire-element combination within the Sixty Jiazi Nayin system, corresponding to the two ganzhi pairs Bǐngshēn and Dīngyǒu. The name evokes the image of firelight at the foot of a mountain or the glow of the setting sun on mountain peaks. Traditionally, it is considered a gentler, more radiant form of fire, distinct from the fierce heat of the midday sun. In old almanacs, when analyzing the Year Pillar or Day Pillar and encountering Bǐngshēn or Dīngyǒu, this Nayin was used to infer its elemental property. In folk date selection or destiny analysis references, this classification is often used as an auxiliary basis for judging the generative and destructive relationships between things or for choosing auspicious timings.
