Pomegranate Wood (Shíliu Mù)

One of the Sixty Jiazi Nayin (Nà Yīn), paired with Gēngshēn and Xīnyǒu, belonging to the Wood element in the Five Phases (Wǔxíng).

Pomegranate Wood is a type of Nayin (Nà Yīn) within the Sixty Jiazi system, corresponding to the years Gēngshēn and Xīnyǒu. Its imagery derives from the pomegranate tree, which has sturdy wood and fruit filled with many seeds. In traditional culture, it is often endowed with symbolism of abundance and prosperity. Therefore, in Nayin theory, this wood is commonly interpreted as possessing qualities of sturdiness and fertility. In olden times, when interpreting fate, if this Nayin was involved, it would sometimes be associated with meanings related to procreation, wealth, or results. This reflects the traditional thinking of ancient people who used the characteristics of common plants to analogize human affairs.
