Bagua (Eight Trigrams)
Qian, Dui, Li, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Gen, Kun, each composed of three lines (yao).
The Bagua (Eight Trigrams) are Qian, Dui, Li, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Gen, Kun. Each trigram is formed by stacking three yao (lines), which can be either yin or yang. This creates eight combinations, hence the name 'Eight'.
Stacking two trigrams vertically creates six yao, and eight times eight equals the sixty-four hexagrams.
Each trigram corresponds to a natural phenomenon (Heaven, Lake, Fire, Thunder, Wind, Water, Mountain, Earth) and a direction. ⚠️ There are two directional systems: the 'Early Heaven' (Xiantian) and 'Later Heaven' (Houtian) arrangements, which have completely different sequences. When looking at a Bagua directional chart, you must first identify which system is being used, otherwise the entire interpretation will be inverted.
