Major Luck Cycles
A set of sexagenary cycle pillars (干支) representing a 10-year period, starting from a certain point after birth. The direction of the sequence (forward or reverse) is determined by the Yin/Yang nature of the birth year's Heavenly Stem and the person's gender.
A set of sexagenary cycle pillars (干支) representing a 10-year period, starting from a certain point after birth. They are used to examine the changing life circumstances and environment across different stages of one's life.
Two factors determine how the sequence is arranged:
- Forward or Reverse Sequence: This is determined by the combination of the birth year's Heavenly Stem (Yin/Yang) and gender. For a Yang year + male or Yin year + female, the sequence is forward. For a Yin year + male or Yang year + female, it is reversed. ⚠️ The two results are completely opposite, so the sequence cannot be determined without knowing gender — this site does not guess for the user, because if it guesses wrong, every period is reversed, and the reader would have no way to tell.
- Start Age of the First Period: The time is calculated by counting the days from the birth date to the moment of the previous (for reverse sequence) or next (for forward sequence) solar term change. Three days are equivalent to one year. Therefore, the starting age is not a whole number; it is often a figure like "three years, seven months, and five days."
The period before the first Major Luck Period is not included in this system; traditionally, this is analyzed using Minor Luck Periods and Annual Luck (流年).
