Ten Gods

Based on the day pillar's heavenly stem, the other heavenly stems' generating and overcoming relationships with it result in ten types of names.

Based on the day master, the other stems and branches' generating and overcoming relationships with it yield ten types of names, forming five pairs:

Relationship Same Yin/Yang Different Yin/Yang
Same element as day master Friend (Bǐjiān) Rob Wealth (Jiécái)
Generates day master Indirect Resource (Piānyìn) Direct Resource (Zhèngyìn)
Day master generates Eating God (Shíshén) Hurting Officer (Shāngguān)
Day master overcomes Indirect Wealth (Piāncái) Direct Wealth (Zhèngcái)
Overcomes day master Seven Killings (Qīshā) Direct Officer (Zhèngguān)

The difference within each pair is only whether the yin/yang is the same. Collectively, they are abbreviated into five categories: Friends and Rob Wealth, Resources, Eating God and Hurting Officer, Wealth, Officer and Killings.

⚠️ The Ten Gods describe relationships, not inherent qualities. The same 'Jiǎ' can be a Friend or Seven Killings in different charts, depending on who the day master is.
