The "Chù Shuǐ Lóng" is an inauspicious celestial body associated with water found in traditional almanacs (Tōngshū). Folk belief held that on days governed by this malevolent force, activities involving water were prone to accidents or misfortune. Traditionally, people avoided boating across rivers, fishing at sea, and in some regions, even tasks like washing clothes or building dikes that involved contact with water. This reflects the ancient reverence for the forces of nature and the wisdom of choosing auspicious days to seek fortune and avoid calamity. Today, while strict prohibitions due to the Chù Shuǐ Lóng are uncommon, some fishermen or those working in maritime industries may still notice such traditional taboos when consulting the farmer's almanac, using them as a psychological reference or guide.
