Dashi (Great Time) is an inauspicious star in traditional date selection. Old almanacs generally considered it a harbinger of calamity and defeat. Therefore, on days when this star is present, major undertakings such as dispatching troops, conducting marriages, and breaking ground for construction were all deemed inappropriate, to avoid inviting misfortune. The establishment of such taboos reflects a folk belief in attempting to ensure success and smooth progress in crucial life or social activities by avoiding specific times.
