Casting and Smelting (Gǔ Zhù)
smelting metal and casting objects.
Gǔzhù refers to the process of smelting metal and casting objects, which was an important handicraft production activity in ancient times. Due to the high-temperature furnaces and molten metal involved, the process carried certain risks, and the output (such as agricultural tools, weapons, and coins) was vital to the national economy and people's livelihood. Therefore, traditionally great importance was placed on selecting an auspicious day to start gǔzhù operations, praying for smooth casting, strong and refined finished products, and the safety of the craftsmen. In the modern corresponding large-scale metal casting or forging industries, the custom of choosing an auspicious day can sometimes still be seen when starting work or breaking ground.
