Pudu

Around the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, people perform Pudu rituals to make offerings to orphaned spirits and ghosts without descendants. Traditional belief holds that the gates of the underworld open in the seventh month, allowing these spirits to wander the human world. Conducting Pudu pacifies them, preventing them from causing harm, and also embodies compassion and sharing. The rituals typically involve preparing lavish offerings, burning paper money, chanting scriptures, and similar acts. To this day, the Ghost Festival Pudu remains an important folk activity in Taiwan and some Chinese communities.
