Laying the foundation and building the base of a house.
It refers to the process of starting to lay the foundation and the base walls of a house on a building site. This is the crucial first step in transforming a design into a physical structure; a solid foundation is considered the root of the entire building. In traditional folk customs, the timing and direction for laying the foundation are believed to influence the future occupants' family fortune, so an auspicious day must be selected by consulting a tongshu (almanac).
