Rù Liàn (Placing in the Coffin)

Rù Liàn is the ritual of formally placing the body into the coffin, marking the deceased's official farewell to the world of the living. Traditionally, the timing of this ceremony is considered very important. A calm and stable day must be chosen to avoid any clash of negative energies (chōng shā), allowing the departed to embark on their final journey smoothly and providing peace of mind for the bereaved family. Almanacs (Tōngshū) will indicate auspicious dates suitable for performing this rite.
