Tiangou is an inauspicious term in traditional almanacs, its name vividly derived from the legend of 'Tiangou descending to devour offerings,' implying the Sky Dog swallows human offerings. Thus, it is traditionally considered highly unsuitable for sacrificial rites or prayers, as prepared offerings might be consumed by Tiangou first, causing the deities or ancestors to be unable to receive them and rendering the rituals meaningless. Although few believe in this deeply today, this reminder may still appear when consulting traditional farmer's almanacs or selecting auspicious dates.
