Wu Mu (Five Tombs)

The Wu Mu day relates to the concept of the Five Elements 'entering the tomb.' In metaphysics, 'entering the tomb' is often likened to a state where things are stored away and energy is sealed off. When the heavenly stems and earthly branches of the day indicate such a state, it was traditionally believed that the dynamic energy is insufficient, like all things returning to storage and not suitable for growth. Therefore, activities like groundbreaking, burial, or opening a business—events that require 'opening' or 'developing' energy—were traditionally avoided on Wu Mu days, out of concern that progress would be locked in place and would struggle to advance smoothly or yield results.
