In the old days, people believed that on such a day, the ruling deities might be inauspicious or malevolent influences prevail, and forcing important events like weddings, business openings, or groundbreaking could easily lead to obstacles or invite misfortune. In modern life, many people still refer to this marker, understanding it as a day of 'nowhere to turn,' and tend to maintain their routine, avoiding any significant new beginnings or decisions.
